jeremy lin played off a stereotypical deficiency i'm not even going to get in to. who refers to the nra as kkk. he is a bigot. apologize for that. >> bob: what is a ghoul? >> greg: somebody uses tragedy to build himself up. he is a hypocrite. because he doesn't worry about being armed. people are armed for him. we live in a building right now, we work at a building right now, where everybody has a gun outside. we're lucky. the rest of the public doesn't. >> bob: eric has a gun in his back pocket. >> kimberly: not on set. >> eric: if belcher's wife or girlfriend had a gun maybe she would be alive now. >> kimberly: dana was it appropriate commentary? his message sparked a controversy. questioning people about his role. >> dana: he can do whatever he wants with his airtime. if that is what he felt he needed to say at the time, it doesn't make sense. a fantasy line to say if i had a magic wand, i would get rid of the guns and we'd have world peace. it would be great. but it's a waste of time and energy. because we know it's not going to happen. the thing that would be more courageous would

guns. >> this is the nra-sponsored shooting event. for legislators and for lobbyists. free. >> there was even one offering free cigars. >> sponsored by reynolds american, which is one of the biggest tobacco companies in the world, and the cigar association of america. >> it sounds like lobbying. it looks like lobbying. it smells like lobbying. but alec says it's not lobbying. in fact, alec operates not as a lobby group, but as a nonprofit, a charity. in its filing with the i.r.s. filing, alec says its mission is "education." which means it pays no taxes, and its corporate members get a tax write-off. its legislators get a lot too. >> in wisconsin, i can't take anything of value from a lobbyist. i can't take a cup of coffee from a lobbyist. at alec, it's just the opposite. you know, you get there and you're being wined and dined by corporate interests. i can go down there and be wined and dined for days in order to hear about their special legislation. i mean, the head of shell oil flew in on his private jet to come to this conference. the head of one the largest utility companies in

issue in general. you know, i think the nra, gun owners of america go too far in imposing any kind of restriction on gun rights. they think you should be able to own anything in any number and carry it in any place at any time, and that i disagree with but what i would say is let's leave the constitution out this because i think that's a complicated argument as well. what i would say is if you want to infringe on liberty and say you can't do x, y or z, i think the burden of proof has to be on you for why there's a societal need for infringing on that liberty. i've looked into this because i'm sort of on the fence on the issue. i looked back at the 2008 landmark supreme court case about the handgun ban in d.c. justice breyer who was a dissenter in the case and considered a liberal justice looked at the evidence for whether a ban on handguns reducing violence and said that the upshot is a stet of studies and counterstudies that at most leave a judge uncertain about the proper policy conclusions. basically, you know, it's a very mixed bag as to whether totally eliminating guns, restricti

member of the nra. i'll do my best to stay in the middle on this one. alan, what did you think about what costas had to say there. >> you're not packing on the set there. >> no, jenna gets angry with me what i do that. the city of new york wouldn't allow it. >> he was quoting somebody else, obviously, i don't get the sense that he was calling for specific legislation, or saying here is what we should do. he wasn't specifically calling for gun control. he was saying some things that are true, we have a gun culture, and two, we could debate whether or not if jovan had a gun would he and his girlfriend be ali today? i think had he said there is a better chance that he would be -- or better than even chance he'd be alive today if they don't have a gun that might have been a better way to express it. he wasn't calling for specific legislation. i think it's interesting how conservatives have decided to jump on him immediately after that statement, which he had to address it and say something. jon: what i find interesting, jim is that automatically the gun becomes responsible. it's the de f
